In The Bush Of Ghosts (Sling, Marek, ADAPA)

Post by Kanzaris on Mon Jun 25, 2018 10:46 pm

The heat of Sitara IV had only grown stronger, if anything, since the last visit ADAPA and Marek had paid to it. The volcanic planet's burning embrace was quite uncomfortable, and moreso knowing that there might be enemies lurking in the shadows here. ASHTAR's 'ninja' must have acquired their powers from this place, somehow. It was up to them to find out how. After being cleared by customs (quite quickly, thanks to their newfound status as galactic celebrities), the Stars were given free reign of the colony. Now, it was time to find some clues.

"Hey Marek, you picked up the same technique from this place, right? If so, it might have been surprisingly easy for that agent. Unless he had to give himself away somehow, not sure how we're going to be able to find him just based on that."

"God damn, it's hot here." Sling says. His ears damp and the rest of him dripping with sweat. "Let's find out what we need to so we can get outta here."

"That is correct, ADAPA, after our time here, I mixed the natural Element Zero manipulations my race engages in with the knowledge gained from the technology on display here. I was able to mimic the effect on a much less potent scale as I am but one person compared to a planet-wide system engineered to make phasing a reality. The time spent practicing before our mission began was also a crucial element, as it is one thing to know theories of phased matter, but another entirely to experience it for yourself. Ability, knowledge, and skill...our ninja would likely have had access to all three on this planet, but that does not narrow it down much...and yes Sling, it is indeed getting quite warm..."

The excessive heat of the planet started to wear on Marek, but like the time before, he extended out a comforting field of Element Zero* to help cool him and his allies.

"Mhh, that's better, now where was I? Ah yes...it might very well be that this ninja was able to learn on their own how to accomplish their feats, and if that is the case, our time here will surely be of little value. Instead, it might be better to operate under the assumption that this ninja had aid, likely from trusted sources, in gaining their abilities. We might very well need to look for a secret ninja dojo!"

Marek wiggled his tentacles at the end to visibly show his excitement at the prospect of helping to uncover such a secretive clan. A clan so secretive that it might not even exist at all, but it was as good a theory as any they had at the moment.

"Oooo, baby! Our own personal air coolinator." Sling sighs with refreshing relief. "Thanks, buddy!"

"I suppose we should ask around any connections you guys may have on this planet, then start looking for shady people hanging out it places you look to train."

Finding information was slow-going at first. While using the official channels wasn't too difficult, acquiring information without potentially tipping off the ninja or the organization behind him was a different story. Luckily however, while visiting the command post, Sling spotted an old acquaintance from his days before working under the General, a jittery Vulpian mechanic known as Screws. He'd switched careers and began working as tech support at the Vulpian embassy, and according to him, an unmarked high priority fighter ship had docked at the embassy's private hangar about a year ago. It was possible that the files at the embassy contained further hints as to the ninja's identity, but they'd have to decide on an approach before finding out what the people working there knew, if anything. Would it be better to ask directly and trust the Vulpians' goodwill towards the Stars? Or perhaps a sneakier or subtler approach was better suited to the occasion instead?
